All About Speedy McDistance
I live in Okotoks, Alberta ,Canada, a small city just south of Calgary. I’ve been married since 2004 to the love of my life Sharon. We have three gloriously buzzing kids Julia (11), Sam (8), and Adele (6). I have a busy massage therapy practice specializing in deep tissue therapy, working out from two clinics: LIV ACTIV Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation in Calgary and Diamond Valley Chiropractic & Health Centre in Black Diamond. When I’m not chasing my three monkeys and treating patients, I like to run obscene distances.
I am the world record holder for the furthest distance run on a treadmill in 24hours (260.4kms), the Canadian record holder for 24hours (257.093kms), and hold numerous Canadian course records for ultramarathons.
My passion for running started in my teenage years running track and cross country in school. It went further in high school when I joined a Calgary track club (Caltaf Athletic Assn.) and started competing in Decathlon. I did well and soon found myself on the junior national track and field team competing overseas. This was short lived as an injury set me back and by the following year I was unable to find my stride. Years passed before I took up running again but this time it was out of enjoyment getting out for short jogs in the morning before work. In 2006 I ran my first ultramarathon in Lethbridge and haven’t turned back since.
The 2017 calendar year is a transition year for me as I’ll be transforming my training and racing to adapt more of a multi-day training model. In September and December I am taking what I’ve learnt in competing successfully at the one day racing and extending that into repeating quality days for multiple days and nights. I’m excited to see where this goes and am in the works of dreaming up some serious challenges ahead of me. All I know is the mind only knows what you tell it and all I know is I’ve got this.
